From the Desk of Congressman Elton Gallegly

February 8, 2010

These are troubling times for the families, and businesses, of Simi Valley. The state is about to take more money from the city’s budget and some in Washington are trying to raise taxes, which I and my like-minded colleagues strongly oppose.

Jobs are being lost, homes foreclosed, and revenues for the city have dropped significantly. As the U.S. Representative serving Simi Valley, and as a past Mayor of my hometown, I am deeply concerned about the future of our community.

Make no mistake, I strongly support the job Paul Miller continues to do as a Mayor of the City of Simi Valley. My relationship with Paul goes back to when I was Mayor. I played a role in his appointment as police chief. However, there has been speculation among many that Paul is contemplating retirement this year. Other people have indicated their desire to be a candidate.

While I would encourage Paul to continue as Mayor with my strong support, should he decide to step down-a decision only he can make-clearly our city would need to fill that void with an experienced, innovative, involved, and community-minded individual.

I know Bob Huber has the skills, knowledge, and city roots to be a disciplined and effective Mayor.

I served with Bob Huber previously on the City Council and personally know of his passion for this community, his dedication to it’s citizens, and his tireless devotion to getting the job done.

Bob has been a community leader his entire adult life. He is the chairman of the Ventura Community College District Board of Trustees and is a leader with numerous community organizations including Rotary International, the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA, and the Simi Valley Community Foundation.

In there trying times, Simi Valley needs a strong, mature hand in the Mayor’s office. We need a person with a proven record of protecting our tax dollars leading the city.

Bob Huber is experienced, innovative, community-minded, passionate, dedicated, and tireless. That is why, if Paul Miller decides to retire, I encourage all Simi Valley residents to join me in electing Bob Huber the next Mayor of Simi Valley.

Over the next few years, the fiscal condition of the State of California and local government will be tenuous. Cuts in spending must be made, priorities for spending must be rethought, and reorganized.

This will take mature leadership. This will take leadership that listens to all the stakeholders of the City of Simi Valley. That means listening to the families, businesses, City Hall workers, the organizations and non profits that make Simi Valley a vibrant community.

Bob Huber is the current chair of the Ventura County Community Colleges Board of Trustees, a former Simi Valley City Council Member, a leader in local community organizations for many years, and someone those holding public office go to for advice and ideas.

I am pleased to endorse community leader Bob Huber for Mayor of the City of Simi Valley. I have known and worked with Bob for several years. I am always impressed with his maturity in understanding the problems of government, and his ability to find answers to the problems of government.

Importantly, he is a fiscal conservative that knows there must be a balance between government and the private sector. As Mayor, Bob will hold monthly open door meetings with the citizens of Simi Valley to hear the ideas and concerns of all our residents. Bob Huber will provide leadership that listens.

I hope that the families of Simi Valley will unite with Bob Huber to bring this city through the economic challenges of the next two years. Please join me in supporting Bob Huber for Mayor.

Senator Cathie Wright (Ret.)

Former Sen. Cathie Wright, who also served with Gallegly and Huber on the City Council, stood with Huber, saying his “heart and soul is this community.” As quoated in the Ventura County Star February 8, 2010.

From the Desk of Greg Stratton

Former Mayor of Simi Valley

I had the honor and privilege of serving as Mayor of Simi Valley for 12 years, after 7 years as a Councilman. In that time we created a healthy budget reserve, and laid the groundwork for a mall in our town.

Today the environment facing Sim Valley is challenging. Lowered revenues, the State taking money from our Redevelopement Agency, the overall economic conditions, combine to make this a time when we need tested leadership that is open to ideas from the citizens of Simi Valley to pull us out of this fiscal challenge.

Having been involved in government and community affairs for more than 40 years, I know many of the community leaders and folks who make Simi Valley a great place to live and work. We need someone who can provide the experience to succeed Paul Miller as leader of the City in these tough times.

There is one person that can best meet the challenge to be faced by Simi Valley, and that is Bob Huber. The current chairman of the Ventura County Community College Board of Trustees, a former Simi Valley Council member, a leader in the Rotary Club, long time active worker for the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA, and numerous other community organizations.

Bob has the maturity to lead us during these troubling times and the ability to listen to all sides of an issue. I served with Bob on the Council and know him as someone who wants to unite people, working in a collegial fashion with all the stakeholders and most importantly, wants to know the needs and concerns of all our citizens.

I am pleased to announce my support and endorsement of Bob Huber for Mayor of Simi Valley. I will take an active role in assuring Simi Valley has the mature and open leadership of Bob Huber as Mayor.
